Have You Started Christmas Shopping Yet?
I ask this question because regardless of where the economy is or how good the stock market is or hasn’t been the idea of the Christmas season and gift-giving hasn’t seemingly been affected at all. I wonder if this was also the case during the great depression? Of course gifts don’t always have to come from a store and with the advent of easy credit almost non-existent you can very easily come to the place of understanding that maybe this is where we should stay. Before the TV was popular the idea of keeping up with the Joneses wasn’t in vogue because of the lack of communication. But after the TV became common place then Madison avenue quickly started using it to sell us on the idea of all the things we NEEDED to have. Of course society quickly added in social proof and the rest if how we ended up here!
Are You Shopping Online, Offline Or Both This Year?
This is an interesting question because it makes a very interesting presupposition which actually dates it to this very specific period of time. That is this is the first time in modern history where a majority of people during the Christmas season may actually purchase their gifts online as opposed to shopping at a regular brick and mortar. This of course is true because of the advent and rise of the popularity of the Internet and the ability to get your advertising and/or product message across to many people in a way that has never been available to the average person. This phenomena is true around the world and I think will lead to some interesting consequences as a result. What happens when the power that was initially owned by the few is now shared among the many?
